The meeting was held in Sisak-Caprag on 15 of March 2013 in the premises of the project partner „Novi svijet“Luščani. The aim of the project is supporting and building capacity of the Roma civil sector in Sisak – Moslavina County. By direct cooperation with the Roma NGOs, CRP will analyse capacities, needs and activities of existing and active Roma NGOs to get a thorough overview of the Roma NGO sector in the Sisak Moslavina County in order to make them cooperative and visible.
The meeting aimed to meet with the representatives of Roma associations as well as present them the project and project activities. The first meeting was attended by representatives of thirteen Roma NGOs: „Udruga za razvoj i bolji život Roma“, „Udruga Roma Bajaša Kutina“, „Udruga Roma Palanjek“, „Romska udruga Romski put – Kalje alu Bajaš“, „Udruga Roma Kutina“, „Romski kulturni centar“, „Romaneska građanska udruga“ Popovača, „Romska prava“, „Nevo Drom“, „Udruga romskih branitelja“, „Romsko kulturno – umjetničko društvo Crni biseri Sisak“, „Romski nogometni klub „Roma“ Sisak“, „Romska udruga umirovljenika“.
At the beginning of the meeting the president of the CRP Sisak Milana Kreća presented the main goal of the project. The legal assistant Anita Košar Ulemek and project coordinator Aleksandar Kojić presented the planned implementation of activities during the project.
The participants were interested in the activities, especially in the free legal aid to the Roma national minority. They presented a big problem of the Roma status issues in the RoC, citizenship, temporary and permanent residence, as well as the problem of employment of the Roma national minority that have obviously been discriminated.
It was said that because of the Roma illiteracy they could not achieve their rights. So in order to improve the Roma education and at the same time to prevent discrimination by the local bodies, the president of the NGO “Udruga za razvoj i bolji život Roma”, Ranko Nikolić, was elected to be a contact person to deal with status issues of Roma minority. The president of NGO “Nevo Drom” was elected to deal with the problem of employment of the Roma minority. They will cooperate with CRP Sisak in solving of these problems.
All participants were also very interested in participation in project activities, such as administrative course and E-course workshops, project management cycle, workshops on human rights and the study visit to the Municipality of Orehovica. The brochure that was made, within this project, on basic and simple information on the rights to access to institutions, was distributed to the Roma representatives.
The participants were very active and supportive to the project. CRP will continue to implement the project activities in order to help the Roma NGOs to become more active and visible, so they could more effectively influence politics that refer to the Roma minority rights in the Sisak – Moslavina County.
