Bedri Hoti was a stateless person in the Republic of Croatia. Now, after 39 years of unsuccessful attempts in different court and administrative procedures, he received a positive decision on Croatian citizenship.
CRP Sisak has provided legal aid to Mr. Hoti since he got a positive judgement of the European Court for Human Rights, in which a violation of the Article 8 (right to respect for private and family life and for home) of the European Convention for Human Rights was established.
In the work of CRP Sisak, the case of Mr. Hoti is the first positive example in solving of statelessness cases. On this occasion and in relation to other cases, we would like to emphasise the importance of free legal aid for protection of human and civil rights.
