Public debate on the Amendments to the Law on Free Legal Aid

On 3 April 2013, CRP participated at the public debate on the Draft of the Law on Amendments to the Law on Free Legal Aid, which was organised by the Centre for Peace, Non-violence and Human Rights Osijek, SDF and Centre for Peace, Legal Advices and Psychosocial Assistance Vukovar in cooperation with the Legal Clinic of the Law Faculty in Zagreb, Human Rights House and Platform 112.

Ljiljana Božić Krstanović presented the obstacles in implementation of the Law on free legal aid. Professor Alan Uzelac presented the best practices of the European countries. The Ombudsman Lara Vidović gave her opinion on the free legal aid. Mirjana Matov of the Ministry of Justice presented the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on free legal aid.

The joint conclusion was that the free legal aid system needed to be changed. It was also concluded that the present free legal aid was not functioning and that NGOs could not function through the present legal aid system.

The final Draft will be made during April 2013 and it will be presented at the Round table in Sisak on 23 April 2013.
