Round table – Homeless persons in Sisak-Moslavina County

On 10 October 2018 in Sisak, CRP organized a round table on the occasion of the International Day of Homeless Persons. It was organized within the project „Free legal aid to homeless persons“, co-financed by the Sisak-Moslavina County. The aim of the project is to raise awareness of homeless persons and institutions, as well as of citizens, on problematic issues of homeless persons, which has been extremely difficult and, at the same time, not tackled enough.

Centers for social welfare in Sisak-Moslavina County have approximately 50 persons registered at their addressees. Other statistics are not available. On the other hand, we all know some, or many, homeless persons, in our lives. It tells us that this issue is not officially covered.

Round table was attended by civil society organizations, Caritas, Merhamet, Ministry of the Interior – Police Department in Sisak-Moslavina County, Town of Glina and centers for social welfare in Sisak, Petrinja and Kutina.

The conclusion was that it was only a beginning of our joint work with homeless persons. Though perhaps a number of homeless persons is low, many people are at risk of becoming homeless. Therefore, it is important to work on prevention of homelessness. We hope that other local and regional self-governments will join this initiative.

The round table was organized in cooperation with the Civil Initiative „My City of Sisak“.
