On the 21st of April 2017 in the Hall of the INA Refinery Community House in Sisak, the celebration of the World Roma Day was organized. World Roma Day is celebrated in a memory of the First World Roma Congress that was held on 8th April 1971 in London, and where the decisions about Roma national anthem, national flag and official language were brought.
Beside Roma cultural associations and NGOs, whose participation in this manifestation is traditional, the manifestation was also attended by the representatives of the City of Sisak, Sisak-Moslavina County, Centre for Social Welfare Sisak, Office for Human Rights and Rights of National Minorities of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the president of the Federation of Roma NGOs Kali Sara, who brought greetings from Mr. Veljko Kajtazi, Parliament representative of Roma national minority.
Special pleasure was a fact that among members of cultural associations that presented Roma dances and songs, there were many young kids, which is crucial for keeping the identity of the Roma national minority.
Like it was in the past, celebration of the World Roma Day is a great opportunity for Roma cultural associations and NGOs to present their work and in that way do their part of the yob in the fight against the discrimination and make better and more tolerant society.
