Closing of the refugee camp Mala Gorica

Since its establishment, CRP Sisak work on housing care issues of the returnees, refugees, IDPs  and all other beneficiaries with similar problems. In 1995, when the Refugee camp Mala Gorica near Petrinja, was built, it was supposed to be a temporary solution for people who had, because of the war, to leave their homes. Since 2000, CRP Sisak has provided free legal aid to the beneficiaries of the camp and organized field visits for those who could not come to the CRP office in Sisak.

In autumn 2014, the State office for Reconstruction and Housing Care started an initiative for final solving of the housing care problems for the settlers of the camp.  As the State Office needed a partner in the field, they signed an Agreement on Cooperation with CRP. Signing of the Agreement did not influence on simplifying of the procedure of housing care and necessity of collecting documents from every state in which beneficiaries had lived since the beginning of the war. For collecting of documents, CRP employees were in everyday contact with the beneficiaries, County State Administration Office, public notary offices and partner NGOs in all former Yugoslav republics. In cases in which our partner NGOs could not collect the documents, CRP organized field visits in Serbia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. All documents that needed to be translated into Croatian were translated by an authorised translator. We would like to emphasise that all beneficiaries in housing care programme are poor and without CRP assistance they would never collect necessary documentation and their situation would only be even worse. CRP also, in coordination with UNHCR BiH, organized transportation of beneficiaries to BiH for the field check of their property in BiH.

Since beginning of the cooperation with the State office, CRP successfully solved more than 50 cases. CRP is of an opinion that the beneficiaries that are provided with housing care units, houses or flats, are still CRP beneficiaries, because they still need legal aid. Through everyday work in providing free legal aid, CRP helps to ex beneficiaries of the refugee camp Mala Gorica.
